Some people out there tweet, others blog. We write music. Not to say we don't tweet or blog, but our focus has always and will always be on creating great music with great people. Nonetheless, we still want to keep you great people up to date on how that's happening, and let you know about any opportunities there might be for you to participate in our dream.

Check back on this blog and on our twitter and facebook page for intermittent update.

FYI: Despite the many other more talented and qualified writers connected to the Pandarosa, John Paul currently writes our blog. Besides posting news and updates, he'll post editorials from time to time about whatever it is he's thinking about. If you like/dislike what you read, let him know!

7/30 - LAKESIGNS TOUR DAY FOUR/FIVE

Sorry for not getting photos up, and for taking a day off of blogging. We didn't have a show last night, so we all sort of vegged out in Tulsa. Eric bought an original Playstation in Lawrence, so we've been rocking the GTA, Blitz, Tekken 3, and Tony Hawk 2. Tighty Whitey/Vanna White has a drop down little screen that we can plug into, so we've been playing while on the road too. Anyway, back to music, we had an incredible show in Wichita at Kirby's Beer Store. The place was full with regulars and some folks we met over at a donut store. We then drove all night to Tulsa to stay in a house that was generously offered to us. We're now packing up, heading to Norman for the last show of this first leg of the tour. Ruben is meeting us up in Norman, then Will and he are headed back to Chicago for a week while the rest of us chill out in Dallas, getting ready for the Showcase. Below are some photos of Lawrence and then Wichita. Goodbye Kansas!

7/29 - LAKESIGNS TOUR DAY THREE

This post will unfortunately have to be a short one as we were unable to find a wifi spot in Lawrence before heading out of town, so I'm writing this post from my phone. We really loved Lawrence - there were lots of folks out on the streets, and lots of energy. The Replay Lounge was bueno, with a solid PA and tournament ready pinball machines. They also showed two episodes of Lost on the big screen outside before the show. It was a late show, and by the end of the night the crowd had thinned, but we were still happy to play. Some great locals came out to see us, including my friend Chris and his friend Jamie. Chris graciously put us up at his place last night. It was probably the best sleep we've all had in quite a while. Unfortunately we don't have any pictures for today, though we might get some up later on. Now we're on the road heading towards Wichita. See yall soon!

7/28 - LAKESIGNS TOUR DAY TWO

It was a short drive from Iowa City to Ames, and we arrived in Ames with enough time to see downtown and campustown. We also had our first Culver's experience together as a band. The show was intimate (small) but the folks who were there were really receptive and welcoming. Erich the soundguy really made our night enjoyable, as did his friend Katy. A fellow named Joseph generously offered to put us up in his place for the night - what a guy! Below are some more photos of our journey, including Joseph's house, his dog Bowski (short for Lebowski), and a photo of our valiant vehicle, Vanna White/Tighty Whitey.

7/27 - LAKESIGNS TOUR DAY ONE

We had a great drive out of Chicago and made it to the very pleasent and welcoming Iowa city. We played a great set to an awesome crowd of locals at Public Space One. It was great, but even better, we made some great friends! Merit, Aerin, and Ken hosted us and our friends from Parlor Knights at their house last night, and made spaghetti for us this morning! Great folks! Below are some photos. Enjoy!

7/21 - Well hello there! It's been a while. Sorry for another late blog post. I am more than happy to say that we've had an embarrassment of riches here at the Pandarosa. We've been busy recording an album with The Boswells and preparing for a tour with Lakesigns. And let's not forget this year's Showcase at The Prophet Bar on August 6th. I'm sorry to say I'm actually off to a rehearsal now, so I can't write too much more. But here's a little sample of what the Boswells have been cooking up, along with the list of the Lakesigns dates, and the finalized Pandarosa Showcase poster. Spread it around, and safe travels!

7/02 - Hey friends. Sorry for another late blog post. I have been very happily busy here in Oak Cliff recording with John and Ali Boswell. I'd love to give y'all a sneak peak, but I'm actually rushing off to a wedding rehearsal for Jeff Egger and Becca Lowder. If you're keeping track at home, this will be the second "Pandarosa" wedding this year. Everyone's getting married! It's incredible to see the people I love who are in love with each other making decisions to love one another for the rest of their lives. That said, I'm now off to a wedding weekend. I'll post an exclusive demo from The Boswells when I get back, I promise. Until then, safe travels!

6/24 - Howdy from Texas! I wanted to wait to write up a blog post until I set foot on Texas soil, and I'm glad I did. My first night in town, David took me out to Renfield's Corner to see local favorites The Beaten Sea. It was an intimate show that highlighted the three part harmonies of the indie folk-country four piece. While The Beaten Sea are enjoying a deserved and encouraging ascent of their own, what's really exciting is their involvement with the ever-expanding Dallas Family Band, a community of several very talented indie folk acts all based here in D/FW. We encourage you to go check them out and support their many artists as they play around the metroplex. We are anticipating a special appearance from a member of the Dallas Family Band at this year's showcase on August 6th at the Prophet Bar, so mark your calendars and come show your support for Dallas indie music. Until then, safe travels!

6/17 - Hey everybody. Sorry for the late blog post. Meghan and I are working hard up here in Chicago getting all our ducks in a row. New dates are being added to the Lakesigns tour everyday, and we are just a week away from studio time with The Boswells. You may have noticed that J Bentley Boswell is listed on our bands page, but The Boswells aren't. John Boswell of The Boswells used to be the frontman of the band J Bentley Boswell, which released The Collage EP in 2007. I was a part of JBB, along with my brother David Thompson, Jeff Egger, and Jonathan Merla. Back before J Bentley Boswell, there was John Boswell Band, which had many more members, such as our good friends Billy Lewis, Josh King, Scott Montgomery, and Emily Benesh. These days, John is playing and writing music with his lovely wife Ali Dugger in their singer songwriter duo, The Boswells. While they are not yet listed up on the bands page, we will spend some time in the coming weeks introducing y'all to The Boswells. They have all new material and I am really looking forward to working with them in the studio. We anticipate a fall release of their debut album.

I know I mention it every time, but get excited for this year's showcase. Below is a simplified teaser poster we've designed for this year's event. We'll post the more informative version soon enough. Speaking of informative, did you know that our friend Mimo Morreale will be guest performing with his group Something in the Wheel at this year's showcase? Remember, it'll be Friday August 6th at The Prophet Bar. Get excited! And safe travels!

6/08 - Two great news items for you Pandarosa fans out there.

First, our good, good friend Trent Lesikar of
The Grizzly Life now has a radio show on KVRX 91.7 FM in Austin, TX called the Bear Cave. This man knows good music (afterall, he appears on three Pandarosa releases and has been to every showcase in the last five years), so check it out every Thursday mornings from 5-7am.

Second, I am pleased to introduce y'all to a new member of our Pandarosa family, Meghan Treptow. She'll be our summer intern while we get things ready these next couple months, helping out with the upcoming recording session and subsequent record release with John and Ali Boswell, along with our 7th Annual Pandarosa Showcase, and the upcoming Lakesigns tour to boot. We're really excited to have her help this summer. If you have a minute, send her a note of welcome at meghan@thepandarosa.com. That's all for now - safe travels!

- Hey everybody. Glad to see you're back at thepandarosa.com. Although we've found some leaks and currently have our fingers in the dam, hoping to have it all fixed up within the next couple of weeks, we are otherwise very, very happy with the new website.

These days my schedule is pretty hectic. Not only is school wrapping up for the year (one more year to go up here in Chicago, if you're keeping score at home), but it looks like Summer 2010 will be a summer to remember. Plans for this summer are already taking over my time. There looks to be plans for a visit to Chicago from some Pandarosa favorites from Dallas - Elijah Salazar, David Harman, and Mike Skinner. Also, there are plans to begin tracking with John and Ali Boswell for their first joint release. There are lots of plans being made (not by me) for Pandarosa bassist Jeff Egger and Pandarosa photographer Rebecca Lowder's wedding, which will be during the beginning of July. On top of that, newly signed Chicago band Lakesigns (of which I am a part) are planning to go on tour this summer! Details are tentative, but check out the calendar page and Lakesigns' myspace to see updated venues and dates. If you'd like to see Lakesigns in your hometown, let them know!

And last but certainly not least, I am super excited about plans being made for this year's Pandarosa Showcase. I mentioned before, but twice is nice - it's our 7th annual Showcase, and we are happy to be hosting it at The Prophet Bar in Dallas, TX, on Friday, August 6th. Mike Skinner, one of my June visitors from Dallas, a close friend from Tyler Street UMC, works front-of-house at The Prophet and The Door, and we are so happy to put  this year's Showcase in the hands of friends.

That's all for now. Check back soon for more updates. We hope to add more songs, more pictures, and more videos to the website in the coming weeks, so keep close. Safe travels!

- Howdy! Welcome to the new thepandarosa.com! We've been working hard for nearly a year to get it just right, though there are still some nuts and bolts that will need tightening. If you happen to find a glitch, please let us know!

So first things first - introductions. I'm John Paul Thompson, and I'm the owner of The Pandarosa. I also am the webmaster, so I handle all the website stuff you see here. I'm also in a fair number of the bands, including Jonny the Wham and Lakesigns. If we haven't yet met, but you're reading these words, feel free to shoot me a message, just to say hey.

A lot is going on at the Pandarosa these days, which is great! We have two new members of the family! That is, we've signed two more artists. Mary Anne Thompson of ( M A ) and Lakesigns are officially part of our Pandarosa family, though Mary Anne has been part of mine for the last two decades already (she's my sister). Mary Anne performed at the 6th Annual Pandarosa Showcase in 2009 and at our 1st Annual Pandarosa Christmas Showcase. You can see videos of her performance on the home page. Lakesigns is a new rock band from Chicago, IL. They are going on tour this summer, and will be performing at the 7th Annual Pandarosa Showcase.

This year's showcase will be on Friday August 6th, 2010 at The Prophet Bar in Dallas, TX. We are excited to return to Deep Ellum this year and are looking forward to working with one of the best venues in D/FW.

Well, that's about all I have for right now. I'll be updating weekly, at the least, so keep on stopping by to hear from your friends at the Pandarosa. Safe travels!
